The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has broken ties with Chinese smartphone company Vivo for the title sponsorship of IPL 2020 as the Indian government is banning Chinese. The latest news is occurring that Patanjali Ayurved, a company founded by Baba Ramdev, may bid for the sponsorship title of IPL 2020. The current situation is not right for IPL in India due to the coronavirus epidemic. Therefore, IPL 2020 will get played in the UAE. from September 19 to November 10.
After the end of the contract for the sponsorship of IPL worth Rs 440 crore by Chinese company Vivo, now the BCCI is preparing to bid a new contract. Patanjali has also expressed interest in joining this dialect and is in the race for sponsorship. Patanjali spokesperson stated that we want to bring the Patanjali brand to the global marketing platform, and for this, the FMCG giant is considering IPL title sponsorship this year.
On August 6, Vivo got removed from the title sponsorship of IPL 2020 after the country’s anti-China sentiment and clashes in Galwan valley. Since then, BCCI is looking for a new IPL title sponsor for this year and may give a 50% discount for IPL title sponsorship this year. BCCI expects to earn Rs 300 crore this year from the title sponsorship. Vivo and BCCI had a 5-year agreement in 2018 on IPL title sponsorship under which, Vivo had agreed to pay Rs 440 crore to BCCI every year for IPL title sponsorship.

Ironically in 2012, Baba Ramdev called cricket an enemy of Indian culture. Apart from this, while explicitly commenting on the IPL, Ramdev said that the game has become obscene due to cheerleaders’ presence. Baba Ramdev even told that due to cricket, gambling and betting market is increasing in the country. This will be the first time that Patanjali Ayurved will sponsor a cricket tournament.
